During the first episode of season 1, we meet Harrison Wright who describes himself and the other members of Olivia Pope and Associates as “gladiators in suits” who fight to protect the careers and reputations of their clients by any means necessary 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  He introduces Quinn Perkins to the world of OPA and along with the other members of the team teaches her how the firm conducts crisis management activities.

Wright grew up in the District of Columbia.  In the earlier part of his career, he sold luxury cars in Takoma Park, Maryland. Later Harrison made a great deal of money working for Adenan Selif, but was convicted of insider trading and received six months in jail for the crime. Olivia Pope defended him as a pro bono case. He credits her with getting his sentence significantly reduced, allowing him to avoid a career in “bookkeeping” in prison. Harrison expresses his intense loyalty to Olivia for liberating him. In her absence, she looks to him as her deputy for managing the day-to-day activities of OPA. Wright keeps watch over all of the members of the team and intervenes when their personal lives start to appear that they may compromise the professional activities of the crisis management firm.

Another roller coast of a ride relationship on the hit ABC’s Scandal is Cyrus Been and James Novak marriage that takes viewers emotionally there. Dan Bucatinsky plays as Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene’s gay journalist husband and I have personally wanted to hug Dan on certain occasions when Cyrus digs deep in James soul and rips it out!

Dan totally deserve to be nominated for the 2013 Emmys as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Dan will have it handled if he beats out the likes of Michael J. Fox (The Good Wife), Rupert Friend (Homeland), and Mad Men’s Harry Hamlin, Robert Morse and Nathan Lane.

According to The Hollywood Report:

BET will debut the first two seasons of the ABC Studios drama with a marathon starting in August, continuing to air episodes up until the third-season premiere on ABC in the fall (a formal third-season premiere date has not been announced yet). The agreement extends season-one Scandal episodes to BET in addition to Netflix, where they’ve been streaming since debuting in September 2012. It marks the first time season two will air outside of ABC and ABC.com. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available. 

THR also mentions Scandal being on BET will broaden more African Americans to ABC and I don’t completely agree with this because I think it’s the other way around.

The move will likely help ABC broaden the serialized drama’s audience among its core demographic, though Rhimes has been vocal about the series not specifically being a show catering to African-Americans.  

BET chairman Debra Lee says “We’re thrilled to be joining forces with ABC in airing this dynamic series,Scandal is a cultural phenomenon that has resonated with viewers for the past two seasons and we’re excited to be part of its continued journey.”

Scandal marks BET’s first syndicated scripted drama acquisition.

I enjoyed watching the new shows on BET, including “The Real Husbands of Hollywood” starring Kevin Hart, and now the new Gabrielle Union series “Being Mary Jane.“ Gabrielle Union also tried out for the part of Olivia Pope on Scandal, but the part was giving to Kerry Washington.  I believe both roles worked out great for both talented ladies. I would love to watch both shows play right after each other.

There hasn’t been an official air date for Scandal season 1 on BET.

Tip 3: Take a Tour of the DC Monuments – Jake Ballard scheduled his meetings with Rowan at the monuments. If you are visiting Washington, DC this summer, take a tour and see all of the locations featured on the show.

Tip 6: Create a YouTube Video Tribute– Compose a video with scenes from your favorite Scandal episodes set to music.

In Season 2, the writers of Scandal introduced a new love interest for Olivia Pope named Jake Ballard, as part of nine episodes beginning with 2×14 Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. So what do we know about him?  Captain Jacob Ballard is a Navy Military Intelligence Officer for Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and also a member of the CIA Black Ops Team B-613 where Charlie and Huck were assigned. His skills include surveillance, breaking and entering, hand-to-hand combat, as well as marksmanship.

On a personal note, he is from a family of seven with four brothers and two sisters which is why he hates the quiet. Ballard’s favorite foods are coffee, beer and donuts. He loves people watching, late night dancing, modern décor, cooking, and quiet walks along the DC monuments. Jake is a romantic at heart who is charming, has a great sense of humor, indulges in fun flirtatious banter, and enjoys passionate kissing. He loves a challenge…so playing hard to get is the name of the game, if you want to win his love and devotion!

Ballard was under orders from Ex-Navy buddy President Fitzgerald Grant to watch and protect his ex-mistress Olivia Pope. At the same time, B-613 Commander Rowan ordered Jake to establish a sexual relationship with Pope, to stay close to the couple, but keep them apart. In the season finale, we discovered that Jake deeply cares for Olivia who had reunited with Fitz. He disobeyed orders to save her from a B-613 assassin putting himself in grave danger.

Terez Owens was the first to break the news on July 2 about the secret wedding that took place in Idaho.

The Blaine County Recorder’s Office confirmed to ABC News that a marriage license was issued for the couple at 9:16 a.m. on June 24. The actress’s parents Earl and Valerie Washington signed the document as witnesses to the nuptials while Chisaraokwu Asomugha was listed as the minister.

The 31-year-old three-time Pro Bowl star played with the Oakland Raiders, who drafted him following his graduation from UC Berkeley in 2003, for eight seasons and the Philadelphia Eagles for two before signing with the 49ers in April. The bookish athlete is no stranger to showbiz, either, having scored acting gigs on The Game, Friday Night Lights and Leverage in recent years.

Like his bride, Asomugha is also a dedicated activist and philanthropist and he has participated in the Clinton Global Initiative every year since 2009.

This is the first marriage for Washington, 36, who went from generally lovely actress to mega-star over the past year thanks to her breakout roles playing not-to-be-messed-with political fixer Olivia Pope on ABC’s Scandal.

Washington broke up with fiancé David Moscow (little Tom Hanks in Big!) in 2007 after several years together. Since then, however, the New York-born actress has kept her private life increasingly on the down-low as her star has steadily risen.  

Kerry Washington recently tweeted:

We are still waiting on details about the wedding from Washington and Asomugha representatives, but none of the less, we are totally happy for the new couple. This is really huge and a great blessing to the already blessed Mrs. Kerry Washington.

Kerry Washington, who portrays Washington, D.C., fixer Olivia Pope on ABC’s hit drama Scandal, tells Vanity Fair contributing editor David Kamp in the August cover story that “one of the most profound things for me about the show is the number of white women of all ages who come up to me and say, ‘I want to be Olivia Pope.’”

“It’s especially profound in a place like South Africa,” she continues. “It’s called The Fixer over there, and it just started its second season. The fact that white women can see this woman of color as an aspirational character is revolutionary, I think, in the medium of television. I don’t think white women would feel that way about Olivia if her identity as a woman, period, wasn’t first in their mind.”

Washington sees the role of fixer as inherently feminine: “What I think is cool about Olivia is that she fully owns being a woman. There’s a very nurturing sense of ‘I’m going to take care of you—don’t worry about it. I’m gonna be your mom in this situation. You come stay in my office, have a cup of tea, and let my gladiators take care of you.’ There’s something very maternal about it. But there’s also something very executive about her, and I mean ‘executive’ in a presidential way.”

Washington assures Kamp that she is not Olivia Pope and says she is not as smart as the character she plays: “I have to learn things to be her all the time.” Her actor’s prep includes some student-like cramming—for example, reading Jeffrey Toobin’s The Nine to better understand Supreme Court machinations—and regular phone conferences with Judy Smith, the real-life D.C. crisis-management expert upon whom Olivia is loosely based.

The only child of two Bronx-based professionals, Washington had a socially conscious upbringing. She tells Kamp that at 13 she was taken to Yankee Stadium to see the newly freed Nelson Mandela speak, and upon turning 18, she recalled, “my becoming a voting citizen was celebrated the way other people would celebrate a Sweet 16. My parents took me out to dinner, and we talked about who I was going to vote for.” She also says that she took up swimming as a child because her parents told her it was the one sport in which proficiency might mean the ability to save a life.

Washington tells Kamp that some of the best actor training she ever had was as a teen safe-sex advocate, performing self-written sex-ed sketches with an educational troupe in schools and community centers: “We would stay in character after the show, and the audience would interact with us. It taught me the importance of really understanding everything about who you’re playing, because you never knew what question was going to come.”
