When “Scandal” returned for its third season premiere earlier this month, viewers had a chance to see a big confrontation between Olivia Pope and her father, Rowan Pope.

In addition, one of the bigger mysteries for the third season was set into place as Cyrus Beene was given an uncensored file by Rowan on “Operation Remington,” a classified mission that President Fitzgerald Grant and Jake Ballard worked on together in Iran during their time in Navy. After Beene glanced at the file’s first page, he uttered the words “Oh my god” and the episode ended there.

“Scandal” star Joe Morton, who plays Rowan on the show, talked to Rachel Smith, host of the “On The Red Carpet” TV show and OTRC.com, recently about Operation Remington, the Olivia, Fitz and Jake love triangle and more.

“It’s something that ties a number of these characters together in terms of what they want and what they’re willing to do to get what they want,” Morton said about Operation Remington. “It’s clearly a part of all of their pasts and when I say … I’m talking about Fitz, I’m talking about Olivia, I’m talking about myself, so that all these things — and Cyrus because he’s been pulled in on all of this — so, yes we’re all tied to it and we will all have varying responses to what needs to be done about it.”
